Book Fair comes to Fairlop!

On Friday 25th January the Book Fair arrived at school.
Our library opened every morning and after school for us to go in with our parents to purchase books.
This year we also had a 'bedtime story' day, when we were allowed to bring our pyjamas to school to put on in the afternoon. We then had a bedtime story with biscuits and drinks. This was great fun!

On Thursday 31st January we had Book Character Day. We all had to dress up as our Favourite Book Character - there were some fantastic outfits!

We had a great week of reading, and the older children went into the younger classes to read to them.

We look forward to the book fair visiting us again!

Snowy Day at Fairlop!

Despite the really poor weather on Monday 21st January, the school was still open as usual.

Fun and laughter was had by all when pupils enjoyed some break and lunchtime fun in the snow. Masses of snowballs, snowmen and other sculptures were being created before the snow disappears.
Some new students to Fairlop had never seen snow before, so it was a wonderful moment to capture on film of their new experience and an upside to our English weather conditions!
Keep checking our website for latest updates on weather conditions daily...

Christmas time at Fairlop!

We have celebrated Christmas at Fairlop in many ways this year. We started off with the children in the Early Years doing nativity performances for the parents to come in to see.

On Friday 15th December we held a Christmas Fayre where there were lots of christmas gift ideas and some lovely home baked cakes and mince pies.

We also had a very enjoyable christmas dinner where nearly 600 children stayed to enjoy the festivities!

We also had a wonderful carol service performed for us by Year 5 and the public that visited the Red House Public House in Redbridge also had the pleasure!!

As you can see this has been a very busy but exciting time for everyone here at Fairlop and from us all we wish you a very 'Merry Christmas and a Happy 2013'

Sumdog Maths Competition

On Monday 12th November we entered a Sumdog Maths Competition. All the children in Year 3 - Year 6 took part.

Despite a delayed start last weekend, we really did well in the competition this week.

We had two daily wins, Tuesday 13th November was won by Year 5 and then Year 6, after a tough afternoon went on to win on Thursday 15th November. This was out of 472 schools nationally so we were really proud of our achievements!  Overall as a school, we came 17th on the leader table out of 472, so this was a pretty good effort.

Everyone was really competitive and wanted to see Fairlop go closer to the top of the leader board.

Well done to everyone who entered we wait now to see what we have won!

The children can continue to work hard on Sumdog as their accounts are still active - have fun!

Half Term already?

After a busy Open Evening, half term is already upon us after eight weeks back at school.

We've packed plenty in this month, as Year 2 visited the London Aquarium, and had a wonderful day out.

See more photos of their exciting time on their Fronter year group room!

Friends of Fairlop held their annual AGM - you can read their Annual Report on the Fronter Parents Room (username:  FPSParents and password:  fairlop).

Are you coming along to their Halloween Disco on Saturday 27th October?  A spooky night in store for all!

We celebrated Harvest Festival at St. Francis of Assisi church, and appreciated the many kind gestures of food and other donations that we took to the church.

Here's our Cake Sale on behalf on Great Ormond Street hospital - just look at the fantastic array of cakes and biscuits that our parents and friends donated:

We also celebrated Maths Week with the aim of raising the profile of Maths and making sure students know that Maths can be fun!  We had a special focus on using calculators in our work.

And a group of students were lucky enough to visit Oaks Park High School and listen to the writer Anthony Horowitz.  They had lots of time to chat to him about his life, his writing, and those fantastic books!

We have started the term, yet again,  with some really exciting activities.  On Monday 17th September KS1 had a visit from 'The Smart Brothers' who helped us with some really great fun tips on how to stay safe when crossing the road. They used unicyles and lots of juggling to explain to us that when crossing the road you must always "Stop, Look, Listen and Think" before crossing.

On Wednesday 19th September Mrs Ball (our librarian) took a group of 9 Year 5 Students to Oaks Park School. Anthony McGowan the author of the Bare Bum Gang book was there to do a Live Video Link with three other schools. It was a fantastic afternoon with lots of fun Questions and Answers!
All of our Children had many questions to ask Anthony as they have read his books at school and they found him to be a really funny and clever man!

At the end of the afternoon Anthony had books to sell to the children which he signed for them. He also very kindly signed and donated a few of his Bare Bum Gang and Donut Diaries books to our school library.
These books are available if you would like to read them. They are very interesting and funny!
